I live totally off grid in the hills – I make my own shampoo and don’t have social media… I love it
A MUM who lives with her family on a mountain has urged people to “go back to the old ways”.
Beth lives in an isolated village, in a place she dubs the Elder Mountains, with a population of just 23 people.
She is self-sufficient, growing and foraging for own food, making toiletries out of natural products and using a “forest toilet” without plumbing.
Her family, consisting of her husband and two young sons, wear Anglo Saxon-style clothing to enhance their “old ways” lifestyle.
Claiming to not have any other social media, Beth set up a TikTok account six weeks ago to give people a glimpse into her life.
She showcases things like how they forge, make natural shampoo and make butter.
The mum is even trying to get the nickname Baby Herbalist to catch on for her son who gets stuck in with the heavy duty work around their isolated home.
“We need to go back to the old ways,” Beth said in a video. “Cooking by flame with the food we grew ourselves and knowing how to preserve it.
“How to make butter from scratch, produce our own cheese, learning more about nature and the power it has to heal us.
“Making free shampoo and soap from the ground that surrounds us.
“This way of life will bring joy and peace to those who seek it.”
A typical day in her life includes picking leaves for food and teas, harvesting food, going to the mountain spring to cool off and collect drinking water, and making organic meals.
Beth admitted that their way of living is “time consuming” but described it as a “dream come true” for the young family.
In their mountain-based home, the family have a dog and cat, as well as a number of unofficial pets – including field mice and birds nested in their ceiling beams.
Beth urged other people to consider her lifestyle because it “feels like a dream”.
“I often think I’m dreaming,” she said. “But honestly anybody can do this here.
“It all starts with a dream.”
It is unclear exactly what country or mountain range the family is based in, but viewers of Beth’s video have theorised the Brit resides in Bulgaria or Albania.
