Gov. Mike DeWine came to northwestern Ohio in March to tout his H2Ohio program before the Regional Growth Partnership. He said “it’s on the ‘right path’ for reducing western Lake Erie algal blooms.” He picked a propitious time of the year to come — when there are no algal blooms in Lake Erie. By this summer, we will again be faced with the sickening, toxic, blue-green slime in the west-ern basin of Lake Erie, providing proof that we are not yet on the right path.

Dr. Gregory Postel has made many important decisions since becoming the president — none more important than saving the University of Toledo Medical Center, after his predecessor and the vast majority of the University’s Board of Trustees sought to sell, lease, or close UTMC. Dr. Postel wisely overruled the Board’s initiative to shut down UTMC, and that arm of the university is by far the most profitable since that wise decision of President Postel.
