Taylor and Sharipova make weight for Lightweight title clash
Later today we'll see female boxing sensation Katie Taylor (19-0, 6), defending her WBA, WBO, WBC, IBF and Ring Magazine female Lightweight titles as she battles Kazakh challenger Firuza Sharipova (14-1, 8) [фируза шарипова].
Yesterday the two women took part in their weigh in for the contest, and both fighters made weight with no issues at all.
On the scales Sharipova was 134.25lbs, which is comfortably under the 135lb limit. Notably this is somewhere in the middle of her usual range for fights, which runs from around 130lbs up to 140lbs. Sadly for her however this is not her usual type of fight, and for the first time in her career she's taking on a legitimate world class fighter, and not some novice taking the fight on short notice.
As for Taylor she was slightly heavier, at 134.75lbs, which is pretty much her standard weight. Taylor, one of the best female boxers of all time, is expected to win this bout without struggling in the slightest though at the age of 35, after a long amateur career and a punishing professional one so far, it's going to be interesting to see just how much longer can remain at the top of the sport.
For fans wanting to watch this one, it will be aired on DAZN.
