The United Nations has renewed its plea for a ceasefire in Syria to halt one of the fiercest air attacks of the seven year war. Russian and Syrian fighter jets have reportedly pounded Ghouta, the last rebel enclave near the Syrian capital for a fifth straight day. According to aid agencies more than 300 people have been killed in the rural eastern district since Sunday night. Syria and Russia say their assault is necessary to defeat rebel fighters. A letter has been sent to Prince Harry and his fiance Meghan Markle containing white powder purporting to be anthrax. Counter-terrorism officers are investigating, according to UK media , which says the package was intercepted before reaching the couple and its contents found to be harmless. The Evening Standard in London that the letter was also understood to have contained a racist message. The paper says it was sent to Kensington Palace in London but delivered to St James's Palace for sorting earlier this month.

Space X finally managed to successfully launch its Falcon 9 rocket on its fourth attempt. Video filmed today (February 22) from San Diego shows the rocket rising into the sky. The rocket blasted off from Vandenberg Air Force Base in Southern California at 9:17 am local time. It carried a Spanish radar-imaging satellite called PAZ as well as a pair of SpaceX's own broadband satellites as a secondary payload.

More than 300 Filipino domestic workers left Kuwait for the Philippines on Wednesday, availing of their government's offer of a free flight home. They join an estimated 2,000 workers who have returned to the southeast Asian nation since January 29, according to the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration.
