U.S. sweeps afternoon matches to lead Solheim Cup
The U.S. women swept to wins in the four four-ball matchups Friday afternoon to take a 5½-2½ lead after the first day of Solheim Cup play in West Des Moines, Iowa.
Stacy Lewis’ birdie putt on the 17th hole gave her and teammate Gerina Piller a 2-and-1 win over Charley Hull and Georgia Hall to cap the Americans’ surge.
Angel Yin and Lizette Salas set the tone for the afternoon with a 6-and-5 win for the U.S. over Carlota Ciganda and Emily Pederson. Michelle Wie and Danielle Kang had a 3-and-1 win over Madelene Sagstrom and Jodi Ewart Shadoff.
Brittany Lincicome and Brittany Lang beat Caroline Masson and Florentyna Parker 3 and 2.
