Yosemite fire forces Wawona residents to evacuate

0

A blaze in Yosemite National Park has caused residents of the small community of Wawona to be forced to evacuate Saturday, officials said.

The South Fork Fire, which began last Sunday east of the town, has burned 2,903 acres, according to federal fire officials. The fire picked up overnight due to windy conditions and has caused officials to order residents and visitors in Wawona to leave.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Firefighters continued to battle the blaze, which was 10 percent contained as of Saturday morning.
