Omar Mateen, the suspected killer who attacked a nightclub
Orlando in Florida, United States of America was thrown into panic and grief at the weekend by a man identified as Omar Mateen, who lived in Port St. Lucie, Florida.
Mateen’s parents are from Afghanistan.
Reports say he never lived in Orlando. He only stormed the place two hours before he struck
The Islamic State of Iraq and Greater Syria (ISIS) has claimed responsibility for the attack considered as the worst in the history of the US.

The Amaq news agency owned and opereated by ISIS said: “The attack that targeted a nightclub for homosexuals in Orlando, Florida and that left more than 100 dead and wounded was carried out by an Islamic State fighter.”
The killer Mateen had called 911 to swear his allegiance and loyalty to ISIS before the attack.
Mateen is said to have been employed by a security company, G4S, since 2007.
He was prepared for the attack with an assault-type weapon, a handgun and some other device on him.
His pattern follows those adopted by previous suspects like the one of the two shooters in the Garland, Texas in May 2015, who indicated support for ISIS in a post on Twitter just before he attacked.

The mass shooting at the Pulse came weeks after a top ISIS official issued a call for attacks throughout the world during the Islamic holy month of Ramadan beginning from June 6.
Omar Mateen was believed to be a bigot as his father said he once got very angry after he saw two men kissing in public.
His father, Seddique Mir Mateen, said his son was a husband and father to a 3-year-old son. He also thinks the action had nothing to do with religion
His ex-wife said Mateen was very abusive, mentally unstable, and not overly religious.
A former co-worker described Mateen was racist, belligerent and toxic.

In 2013, Mateen was reportedly interviewed twice by federal agents after co-workers reported that he made inflammatory comments to them about radical Islamic propaganda.
A year after, he was again investigated for ties with an American who travelled to the Middle East to become a suicide bomber.
Come co-workers claimed he had anger management issues and was often racist and scary. The things that would set him off were always women, race or religion.
His father expressed shock, said the family was not aware Mateen was planning any attack and apologized to the misdeed.

It is believed his job as a guard at a juvenile delinquent facility may have given him access to the heavy assault weapons he carried.
