A’s Ryan Madson says Bay Bridge Series has ‘playoff atmosphere’
Ryan Madson has pitched in two World Series and was unaffected by the magnitude of the event.
The Bay Bridge Series, though, got to him a bit — especially with Tuesday night’s dramatic back-and-forth game.
“That was playoff atmosphere, that was playoff feeling, and I think I got caught up in it a little bit emotionally,” said Madson, who allowed four hits, including two homers, and three runs in his two innings of work.
Madson, the A’s closer, said he got caught off guard going into the game in the eighth inning, with Sean Doolittle unavailable because of a recent heavy workload.
“My fault,” Madson said.
Madson also got his first at-bat since April 7, 2010.
Madson was unavailable Wednesday, and though Doolittle played catch, he was not available, either, according to manager Bob Melvin.
If Doolittle is limited another day or two, he will become a strong possibility for the disabled list.
John Axford also had a rough night Tuesday, allowing two hits, a walk and three
Davis scratched:
Left fielder Khris Davis, who leads the A’s with 19 homers and 53 RBIs, was scratched from the lineup with a left shoulder contusion, the result of banging into the wall Tuesday while chasing Brandon Belt’s double in the first.
Davis remained in that game, but didn’t “feel great” swinging the bat Wednesday,
Billy Burns wound up in the lineup as a result, and drove in two runs, one with a squeeze bunt and the other a double, and scored a run.

Surkamp claimed:
The A’s and Rangers continued their history of claiming each other’s players when Texas claimed left-hander Eric Surkamp, designated for assignment when Oakland claimed Nick Tepesch from the Dodgers on Monday.
Surkamp was 0-5 with a 6.98 ERA.
