Summer is coming. For many, that means trips to lakes, beaches, pools, or even running through sprinklers — we don't judge.
Unfortunately, humans love water way more than electronics do.
As someone who lost a Tamagachi to a huge wave, and has seen the look of horror on friend's faces when they fall into a pool with a phone in their pocket, I'm well aware of how bad things can get when gadgets and water meet.
The electronics on this list are waterproof or water-resistant, and there's even an accessory to keep your nonwaterproof electronics safe while you're having your fun in the sun.
An underwater camera
AmazonIf you're planning on playing any water-based sports this summer, you might want to have a camera to document the fun.
The GoPro HERO+ LCD is capable of capturing 1080p footage at 60 frames a second. It's also lightweight and waterproof up to 141 feet. Reviewers have praised the HERO+ LCD's picture quality, but noted that the camera has a couple of faults.
The first is that you can't take it out of it's protective case; because of that, the battery is inaccessible, so you'll have to recharge the camera instead of popping in a spare battery you've got on hand. One reviewer got around this by keeping an external USB battery around, since the HERO+ LCD charges over Micro USB, but that's not really an option underwater. The HERO+ LCD is ideal for those who want to take a bunch of good-looking clips over the course of a day, rather than hours of raw footage.

A waterproof speaker
AmazonKeeping a speaker near a body of water is a tricky proposition: You want it close enough to hear the music loud and clear, but far enough back that it won't get splashed.
AOMAIS has made a waterproof Bluetooth speaker to make that compromise a thing of the past. The official specs peg the speaker as being waterproof up to 7 feet for 12 hours, and while some manufacturers use the term "waterproof" when they mean "water-resistant," reviewers on Amazon have put this speaker to the test.
Multiple reviewers have included videos with their written reviews, playing music before dunking the speaker in a pool. Each video ends the same way: The speaker floats to the top of the pool — a nice touch — and continues to play music uninterrupted.
AOMAIS Sport Outdoor/Shower Portable Bluetooth Speaker, $49.99, available at Amazon.
Waterproof headphones
AmazonWhy should runners have all the fun? If you'd like to listen while you swim laps, a pair of waterproof headphones should be on your summer to-buy list. Thankfully, Swimbuds has you covered.
Now on their second generation, swimmers on Amazon have praised the Swimbuds for their snug fit and tight water seal. The Swimbuds come with four different types of headphone tips, so they can fit in as many differently shaped ears as possible. The air seal they create is powerful enough that, as long as they're in your ears before you make the plunge, you shouldn't get any water inside.
By default the Swimbuds have a short cord so they don't interfere with your swimming, but an extra 3-foot cable is included, if you'd like to clip your music device somewhere lower on your body.
Swimbuds SPORT Waterproof Headphones, $70, available at Amazon.
