One gaming executive believes Nintendo's next console will be a huge success
It's safe to say that Nintendo doesn't have the same presence in living rooms as it used to. The Wii was the video game console of choice for people who don't normally play video games, providing countless hours of accessible fun with the bowling and tennis in "Wii Sports" alone.
Nintendo's most recent console, the Wii U, never caught fire like its predecessor did. The name was too similar, leading many to be confused as to whether it's a new console or an add-on for the Wii. Nintendo also never properly explained the appeal of its tablet-like GamePad controller; it took them three years to finally make a game that justifies it in "Super Mario Maker."

Needless to say, for Nintendo to stay relevant (or regain relevance, depending on how you look at it), their next console needs to be huge. We don't know much about the new system, codenamed NX, aside from the fact that it will come out in 2017. But an executive from one of the biggest companies in gaming thinks the new console could bring back the Wii users that the Wii U lost.
"We have done a lot of products and successes with Nintendo in the past, and we believe that the NX will recapture a lot the lapsed Wii players," Alain Corre of Ubisoft told MCV. "So we will see when they release it, but we are confident.”
Ubisoft is the company behind smash hit franchises like "Assassin's Creed" and anything with the "Tom Clancy's" name on it. The company also makes the mega-popular "Just Dance" series of motion-controlled dancing games, with the next entry being one of two confirmed NX games. The only other NX game we know about is Nintendo's "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild."
As the executive director of Ubisoft EMEA, Corre certainly knows something we don't about the NX. It's possible Nintendo has some amazing trick up its corporate sleeves that will blow us all away when the NX is revealed later this year. We can only hope it's anywhere near as cool as the Wii was 10 years ago.
