Speaking at thePublic Awareness/Sensitization Walk, the president of Women Arise, Dr Joe Odumakin disclosed that: “Gender Based Violence (GBV) is a form of violence affecting the female gender and is disturbing on the rise. This is threatening our younger generation and the future as the category mostly affected is the youths. However, youths are both perpetrators and victims of violence.”
She added that: “Women Arise is on a mission to alarm the rising state of violence in our society, sensitize the public on the dangers and work out measures to arrest the odd trend. Young persons are largely victims of rape, trafficking, early or forced marriage, mob actions and other forms of domestic violence. GBV causes injuries, disorientation, disorganization, displacement and death as the case may be. Let’s avoid/prevent GBV and make our society a better place. If a neighbor is victim today, it means we are not safe, ourselves. Be a neighbor’s keeper, love respect and prevent violence against others.”
