Cal’s Davis Webb is one of the top QBs in NFL draft
“I think he will end up being the best quarterback of this draft class,” one executive told NFL Network.
Webb was the Most Valuable Player in January’s Senior Bowl and is projected as a third-round pick in next month’s draft.
“I have the best arm in the country, and I plan to show that I am the top quarterback in this draft class,” Webb told reporters.
Webb, who’s 6-foot-5, played one season for the Bears after transferring from Texas Tech, and his numbers out of the shotgun weren’t too far off those of Jared Goff, the Cal quarterback who went No. 1 overall in last year’s draft.
Cleveland head coach Hue Jackson was Webb’s South team coach at the Senior Bowl, and Jackson was impressed by the things that make quarterbacks move up a draft board.
Webb was a team captain at both Texas Tech and Cal, and that’s something he is very proud of and something that NFL scouts and coaches highlight in their notes.
NFL scouts and coaches will be grilling him and watching his workouts this week to make sure he is not another system quarterback.
Webb made incremental improvements as the week went on,” Draft Analyst’s Tony Pauline said, “but he left (the Senior Bowl) as he entered it: as a strong-armed passer who doesn’t always know where the ball is going.
