247 - The Minister of Indigenous Peoples, Sonia Guajajara, classified the enactment of the "marco temporal" benchmark by the National Congress as a "regression".
The enactment occurred after the parliamentarians decided to overturn President Lula's veto of the thesis that limits the demarcation of new territories for these communities.
In a post on the social network X (formerly Twitter), Guajajara lamented that the President of the National Congress, Rodrigo Pacheco, had enacted the measure, and said that the 'last days of 2023 come to show us that the struggle does not stop'.
She had already said this month, after Congress overturned President Lula's vetoes, that she would engage the Attorney General's Office (AGU) to overturn the reinstatement of the timeframe benchmark. According to her, the decision of Congress "disrespects the Constitution".
