Final farewell ‘bittersweet’ for Chancellor Ken Iwama and Indiana University Northwest grads

Indiana University Northwest Chancellor Ken Iwama recalled his introduction to campus life in 2020 along with Wednesday’s graduates in the Class of COVID. “When I arrived, this was essentially a ghost town,” Iwama said prior to Wednesday’s commencement exercise for more than 600 graduates. The ceremony was a poignant goodbye for Iwama. IU announced his appointment Monday as the university’s vice president for regional campuses and online education. Lockport Township man, 70, charged in shooting of neighbor

John Shadbar, of the 16500 block of West 144th Place, Lockport Township, is charged with attempted first-degree murder and aggravated battery as well as felony possession and use of a firearm, according to police.

Woman receives 20 years after pleading guilty to 2003 murder of twin infant sons

A woman accused of suffocating her newborn twin sons 21 years ago pled guilty to their murders Tuesday and will serve 20 years in prison, according to Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart’s office. Antoinette Briley, 44, was convicted six years after authorities reopened an investigation into the deaths of two infants found in the trash in unincorporated Stickney Township in June 2003, according to the sheriff’s office. Illinois hemp businesses owners call for regulation and taxation, not prohibition

The last thing most business owners want is to be taxed and regulated, but hemp business owners are asking for just that — as a way to keep their industry alive. Hemp entrepreneurs came out Tuesday in favor of a proposal to license hemp sales, require testing and labeling of their products, prohibit products that look like well-known snack brands, and limit sales to those 21 and over.
