Despite Brad Stevens’ optimism, the absence of a supermax deal for Jaylen Brown nearly three weeks into free agency is a little bit noteworthy given the factors in play for both sides. There are issues to work out per sources (trade kicker possibilities, player option for a fifth year, etc.) that come as no surprise at this point. However, it will be interesting to see just what side gives in on their preferred terms for a deal.

New York made contact with the Chicago Bulls about their shooting guard, Zach LaVine, but the asking price for the two-time All-Star was “giant,” as one league source told The Athletic, which is exactly why LaVine remains in Chicago. It goes without saying that San Antonio is an alluring destination for French players including Knicks’ Evan Fournier. Fournier, who is from France, is very vocal that he wants to leave New York and start fresh with another team this offseason. In an interview with French outlet L’ Equipe, he cites a lack of playing time with the Knicks during the regular season and including the playoffs as reasons he would like to leave the Big Apple.
