Behind the Nuggets, Charles Barkley appears to have the Lakers as the second-best in the Western Conference after being swept by Denver in the conference finals, following their six-game series win against the Warriors. “I think the Lakers have gotten better,” Barkley said. The smartest thing Lakers GM Rob Pelinka did this offseason was staying away from making drastic moves.

Scotto: Lakers guard Austin Reaves recently told All The Smoke on Showtime that the Rockets and Spurs were possibilities before he re-signed with the Lakers. The Spurs considered offering Reaves a restricted free agency sheet worth $21 million per season, league sources told HoopsHype. Ultimately, however, the Spurs were scared off by the widespread belief that the Lakers would match any offer sheet for Reaves and chose to preserve cap space as a salary dump destination for future draft pick compensation. Scotto: This summer, we saw Domantas Sabonis agree to a renegotiation and extension deal with the Sacramento Kings, and there’s another candidate to keep an eye on down the line for something similar. Utah Jazz forward Lauri Markkanen is a renegotiation and extension candidate for next year to keep an eye on, from what I’ve heard. Currently, Markkanen is owed $17.3 million this upcoming season, and then only $6 million of his $18 million salary is guaranteed for the 2024-25 season.

After football star Kylian Mbappe got offered $776 million for one year to play in Saudi Arabia for Al-Hilal, stars around the world of sports have had their say on it.

The NBA has seen incredible growth over the past decade. The salary cap has nearly doubled since the year before the 2016 salary cap spike, leading to substantial pay raises for players across the board. Seven years ago, Mike Conley Jr. signed the largest contract in NBA history with a five-year, $153 million deal. Today’s largest contract in the league is worth double that.
