Resgen, Noble reach agreement on security condition to financing facility

ASX- and JSE-listed Resource Generation (Resgen) and Noble Resources International have agreed that the security to be provided as part of a revised funding arrangement between Noble and Resgen subsidiary Ledjadja Coal, be a share pledge over ResGen’s 74% interest in Ledjadja, which is held by another Resgen subsidiary, Resgen Africa Holdings Limited (RAHL). Resgen announced on September 13 that a conditional agreement had been reached with Noble to provide additional working capital through to March 31.

Kore nears DFS, mining licence finalisation for Kola project

Tiris tipped for 2020 start

The Tiris uranium project, in Mauritania, is still expected to start production in 2020, ASX-listed Aura Energy said, with the company currently progressing a definitive feasibility study (DFS). A 2014 scoping study estimated that the project would require a capital investment of $45-million, based on a one-million tonne a year operation, delivering 11-million pounds of uranium over a mine-life of 15 years.

Volatility in global base metals industry to remain, but outlook stable – Moody’s

Financial services firm Moody’s Investor Service has a stable outlook for the global base metals industry over the next 12 to 18 months, although indications are that economic growth rates may have peaked. The firm said in a release on Tuesday that synchronised economic growth rates in 2018, particularly early in the year, had contributed to improved consumption for the base metals complex and to the rally seen in prices in the first half of the year.

Rio CEO says mining industry has to reinvent itself

Diversified miner Rio Tinto has called for a reinvention of the resources industry, in order to fit into a modern world. Speaking at the International Mining and Resources Conference (IMARC) in Melbourne, Rio CEO Jean-Sebastian Jacques said on Tuesday that the resource industry’s vision had to be fundamentally different than that of 50 years ago, in a world where cars drive themselves, machines were faster than humans, and where there would be more than 7.5-billion people in the world.

Savannah restart under way

Nickel miner Panoramic Resources has inked a contract with ASX-listed Pacific Energy to restart an existing 12 MW diesel power station at the Savannah nickel/copper/cobalt mine, in Western Australia. The power station will be restarted from November 1, and will be immediately upgraded and expanded with an additional 2 MW of power generation capacity.

First Quantum lifts copper guidance, lowers gold forecast

Canada’s First Quantum Mines has upped its 2018 copper production guidance by 5% to 590 000 t, to reflect higher production from its two largest operations – Kansanshi and Sentinel, in Zambia. The Kansanshi mine increased its third-quarter output to 63 687 t, from 58 706 t in the prior-year quarter, while Sentinel’s production increased to 56 426 t, from 53 533 t in the same period, First Quantum reported on Monday.

Aurizon loses Queensland coal network legal challenge

The Queensland Resources Council on Tuesday welcomed a ruling by the Queensland Supreme Court to dismiss freight operator Aurizon’s legal challenge to a draft decision from the Queensland Competition Authority (QCA) for the future operation of the state’s major coal rail network. Coal miner Stanmore Coal has reported a fall in production during the three months to September, despite reaching a record run-of-mine (RoM) production at an annualised rate, with the start of production at its Isaac Plains East operation driving the growth. RoM production decreased by 9% on the previous quarter, to 498 000 t, following a 16-day planned shutdown of the coal handling and preparation plant. BHP trims forecasts for US, China GDP growth due to trade conflict

The world's biggest miner BHP Billiton has trimmed its expectations of global growth for next year and 2020 due to a "lose-lose" result from the US-China trade conflict, a senior executive said on Tuesday. BHP's modelling suggested the trade row would cut both Chinese and US GDP growth by about a half to three quarters of a percentage point, COO Arnoud Balhuizen told the IMARC mining conference in Melbourne.
