**update**
The guy finally sent the relevant information and I sent a text to the number provided to make sure it was genuine and dispached the amp on Friday evening. It seems it is all genuine, he's just very stupid as today he has messaged me to say the bass amp head has arrived and he want's to know, "what the active and passive little button does as I have active speakers that have amplifiers in already but can I link it to this amp? is that what the button is for? or do I only use passive speakers only?"
This one may not be over yet... :?
Cut the guy some slack. It could be me :-)
I play a little guitar (acoustic) and my kids recently started learning. The older one was desperate for an electric, so I've been looking out for a decent 2nd hand guitar & practice amp on Craigslist. Finally pulled the trigger on a late 90's Squier HSS strat with a Fender Frontman 15g amp yesterday. Went to check it out, the guy set it up and I played a bit and tested all the switch settings etc. Looked fantastic, sounded great, guy was really nice and seemed genuine. Deal for $100.
Got home, plugged it all in. Not a sound. Cursed for 2 minutes, then realized I'd plugged the cable into the headphones socket! :-D
Put cable into correct INPUT socket. Not a sound! Cursed some more. Convinced he had somehow swapped the guitar for a dud when I wasn't looking, or something similar :-D
Began twiddling all the knobs (on amp and guitar). Still no sound. Finally, pressed the tiny little button that said "Drive Select" and managed to get a very distorted sound. Played around with volume knobs etc and finally manged to get some clean sounds. Hallelujah!
Anyway, my rookie question is this: should the sound be clean at all volume levels? Currently I can only get clean(ish) sounds if I have the guitar volume at 8+ (I haven't managed to get to 11), which is fine I guess, but I wanted to know whether the amp is faulty, the cable is crap or the pups are dodgy. How the feck do I narrow it down, or is it just normal for the sound to be crackly at lower volumes on cheaper equipment? No idea, any help appreciated.
BTW. kids love it! :-)
