Certainly no stranger than you describing David Langan as "no more than neat and tidy" but Steve Carr as "World Class".

It's about opinions.

The original post to which I replied asked about the best I reckoned I'd seen, and my favourite. Which is fine because they can be two different things.

Savage was neither the best, nor very near to it - because he was a very average footballer, albeit high on energy and commitment.

Nor my favourite. Because he was and still is a fanny who treated my club very poorly by his own admission.

I saw him deliberately play badly and without effort at Newcastle and pick up a deliberate booking to prevent himself becoming cup tied ahead of his move to Blackburn. I then saw him celebrate maniacally because he thought he had relegated us. He would be pretty far from my favourite for those reasons.
