I'm inclined to agree. For me there's nothing unusual about the board's practice. Most clubs now have advisors/directors of football running the show - was Panos not the same thing? If they don't have a Darren Dein figure then they end up getting involved themselves ala David Sullivan - is that what we want? As far as I'm concerned, the owners have invested heavily which as fans is as much as we can ask. They were wrong to sack Rowett but if he wouldn't commit and we were coming up to a transfer window in which they wanted to invest, what could they do? Zola was another mistake but in terms of Harry, (nearly) all of us wanted him and it was a risk worth taking. It hasn't worked. I would have given him more time simply because it seems like the sensible thing to do but in my gut, I don't believe he would have got out of the mess he created.
People criticized the owners for taking too long to sack Zola. Harry lost 6 in a row and has us 23rd (something even Zola never managed) and people are criticizing the board for acting too quickly. Like Rab says, they can't win.
I agree with this in the main. I am disappointed that Harry couldn't do it, and it was a surprise (to me) that they acted so quickly, but I had real misgivings as to whether it could turn around to an appreciable extent. I don't know what experience Dein has as a football club advisor or a type of DoF, but he surely had impartiality issues given that he's an agent, and he comes across as a bit on the slimy side. Still, if he can do a job, he can roll in baby oil and hiss 'trust in me' as far as I'm concerned.
As to whether the board can win or not, I think that the next managerial appointment will determine that.
