I think it reasonably sensational, or at least surprising, in the context of it being only just over two weeks before Harry was allowed to bring so many players in and, particularly with injuries, hadn't had chance to see the team gel.

I'm inclined to agree. For me there's nothing unusual about the board's practice. Most clubs now have advisors/directors of football running the show - was Panos not the same thing? If they don't have a Darren Dein figure then they end up getting involved themselves ala David Sullivan - is that what we want? As far as I'm concerned, the owners have invested heavily which as fans is as much as we can ask.
I reckon that based upon the type of things Harry said many times along the lines of 'I don't have much to do with buying players' that the system we have in place is one where the manager has almost nothing to do with the buying process, which would explain why they didn't have any problem getting rid of Harry because he wasn't able to turn the players he inherited and the ones that were brought in for him into a winning side, really quickly. Perhaps their vision involves any manager you like as long as he appeases the fans and puts on a show of being in control?
It's clear that somewhere along the line mistakes were made which meant that the players we originally planned to get weren't brought over the line and this delayed the team rebuilding process until 'the last minute' or at least the last ten days before deadline day. Whether any of this was Harry's fault or not we will probably never know.
The whole thing seems to have been quite messy and unorganised. On the bright side, at least some of the players brought in seem to be smart purchases that will improve the squad and hopefully give us a chance of challenging. I guess it would be good if we could get a decent manager, settle things down, start winning games, find out who our key players are, build a team that wins games around them, then get to the January window with a chance of promotion and back the manager again in that window.
