To add a bit of balance, Wigan were amongst the favourites for promotion if I remember correctly and he took them to the relegation zone before he was sacked.
Then with Leeds, he won 1 or 2 games in about 2/3 months.
Not that I dislike him. He's far from the finished article but he seems to do well on a shoe-string and his coaching methods are highly talked of by anybody that seems to come into contact with him.
The problem with him is that he doesn't seem to have a plan B. When results don't seem to be going well, there isn't an alternate way of playing, he just seems to keep trying the same thing, even if results aren't going well.
I do agree about your point on needing a good coach though. The key now is to get every last ounce of potential out of the players that we have
Think that's a fair point to make. If they were favs then that was him being a victim of his own success - they obvs weren't very good because he was gone early enough to change the fortunes and neither Mackay nor Caldwell could do it - so the evidence would suggest that they shouldn't have been near the top of the market.
Leeds was a poor spell for him, certainly, but he was following on from Hockaday, Redfearn, Milanic and Redfearn, so don't think there'd have been any suitable foundations to work with and 12 games is no time for something which would have needed such an overhaul. I can't remember the specifics tbf, they could have been dreadful, but I'd be willing to forgive him for that one.
RE: plan B, I think Fleetwood have played plenty of different formations since he took charge, which hopefully suggests he's becoming a bit more flexible. They've played 352, 442 and 4231 at different times.
It's probably all a bit redundant as the owners will want a name anyway and we'll end up with Karanka as Rowett Mk II
