I'm going away with the family for a short break for my daughter's 21st. I hear stories about people who drop it in that they're celebrating an event but what's the best way to do it; just bluntly email the hotel and ask if there's any free upgrades going, or what?
Come on, there are plenty of scroungers on here.....I'm in need of tips.
Not so bothered about the flight because we're not all travelling together anyway. I've tried Virgin before and they've not offered anything.

Tried it for our honeymoon with Virgin. Best they did was give us a row of three to ourselves, so just nobody sat next to us. Naively we were expecting an upgrade to Business Class or Economy Plus at the very least. More fool us.

When i went to Woolacombe, i made it seem like i was some partying kid who will disrupt everything and they were apprehensive to let me stay and they took it to management who came back with the excuse "they don't let groups (4 of us) of same sex stay together".

I always say, the saddest thing about it is that The Evening Mail used to be a very, very good local evening paper.
It had good news coverage, outstanding sports coverage, a great Friday section with extensive gig guides for the following week and generally very high standards. I used to travel a lot and read a lot of papers local to wherever I happened to be, and - even trying to put my Brummie bias aside - The Mail was a cracking paper.

are you thick or what? the reason hotels dont lioke same sex couples is nothing to do with being Gay! its because it sends off alarm bells about a stag party rocking up and wrecking the stay for all other guests, had it happen a couple of times in Dublin!
