I find the backlash a bit OTT to be honest, the guy just proposed an uncompetitive exhibition match, the proceeds of which would be distributed to EFL clubs. Maybe it's just because it's come from an American and a lot of people, justifiably or not, have an inherent fear of the growing influence of Americans in the English game and what that may entail for the future.

Personally, I don’t fully understand it
However I do know people who have been far more affected by Liz’s death than they were expecting.
It’s almost as though the Queen had come to represent the idea of a Britain that now seems lost. That, along with the fact that many people over the last couple of years haven’t been able to grieve publicly for loved ones in a normal way, seems to have led to an outpouring of emotion.
