Re: 'Super happy' Ivan Sanchez opens up about his Birmingham City future
Nikola ZigicThe problem is we are shopping for scraps.
This means we are either signing gifted players who are a risk due to issues:
- Age- Taylor/San Jose/Deeney
- Consistency - Bacuna/Hernandez
- Injury record- such as the link to Mawson
- Attitude- Villalba/Crowley
- Mental strength- the rest
When you're paying pittance in wages for frees and loans you aren't going to get players that tick every box.
We've signed players with the right age, consistency, injury record, attitude and mental strength but they've not been particularly good at football... Kieftenbeld, Grounds, Camp, G. Gardner, Mrabti etc
A few of our signings pay off in all of those areas but they are very few and far between. Michael Morrison for instance.
Let's see if any of the newer lot grow into being really good signings, the early signs for Bacuna are promising, the problem is we need a lot more.
That feels like a good summary to me. Although haven’t we overpaid rather for some of these “scraps”?
