Alzheimer’s Support (10 replies)
I was wondering if anyone has any advice or guidance as kinda at my wits end here.
My Nan recently got diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, she’s 92 and has always been a picture of health. It’s been a horrible month of extremely rapid deterioration, as often has been said, it’s almost as if 30 years of age has caught up to her in 1 month.
Ironically, she is completely Compos Mentis so it appears the Alzheimer’s has not set in. However this has coincided with her just becoming extremely frail, and not getting out of bed/eating. I’ve moved back from Southampton to be with family more and I am fortunate enough to work from there house 3 times a week to be there, but it is quite emotionally draining, particularly as there has been no social support and everything is being funded privately, which is limiting the care.
She lives with my grandad at the moment who has a stroke 5 years ago and is 88 so though he can look after himself is struggling to assist with her.
We’ve yet to have a social worker come out to do anything despite chasing daily.
If I’m honest, I’m not even sure what I’m asking for, but I was wondering if anyone could share some experiences, or advice for me to help get my Nan the best care and make sure she’s ok and my grandad also. If it makes any difference it’s Walsall Council, I have reached out to Alzheimer’s society and age UK, who I have to be honest have been absolutely fantastic but as I say if anyone maybe has a nugget of support or advice it would be hugely appreciated.
