25 Years ago today
Over the next 100 days, something in the region of 1 million people were murdered and 3 million people were displaced - equating to about half the population at the time.
It is estimated that about 350,000 children were left without both parents and many more lost one parent.
The country was left with no infrastructure, no realistic government, police, education or food production.
25 years on, Rwanda is beyond recognition. It is the safest country in the continent, a strong people facing government, it has a superb road network, and the export of precious minerals are helping its economy.
There are of course still issues, but it is a developing country that is truly developing.
Having had the privilege to spend time there, it has touched my heart.
Over the next 100 days it will be high in my thoughts and prayers as the country reflects on the horrendous events of 25 years ago, but looks to the possibilities of the future.
???????????? Rwanda ????????????
