5 life stages of being a Blues supporter … (5 replies)
Fascination (70’s) - early life exposure leading to life long obsession; included 6-2 wins at Leicester, 5-1 wins against Man Utd, and promotion clinching 3-3 draws with Notts County. Fluctuating divisional status but a seemingly never ending supply of boyhood heroes
Despair (80’s) - crowds of 5000 on dilapidated terraces, defeats to Altrincham, violence at most games, fittingly owned by a scrap dealer, buy a player fund, dropping to the third tier for the first time in our history, what’s the point?
Hope (90’s) - finally investment, new stands, new players (loads of them - 46 in one season), heroes returning as managers, trips to Wembley, national headlines, dreams of the promised land, we’re on our way
Exhilaration (‘00’s)- the shortest but most glorious of all the stages, finally we’re back, trips to Cardiff, even a World Cup winner choosing us, the invincibles, 9th place in the Premier League, another euphoric trip to Wembley and Obafemi Martins
Bewilderment (‘10’s and early 20’s) - how did that happen? Alleged corruption, trolley dashes, managerial change, last minute headers, last day survival, egotistical execs, v-necked sweaters, points deductions, renamed stadiums
Apparently there’s a sixth stage coming soon ….
