I’ve never understood the fascination with connected home cameras, such as Canary, the Nest Cam, and others. They’ve always been a gimmick in my experience, not reliable enough for a proper security system, not practical enough to be a baby monitor. But a lot of people really like them, so I spent the last week with the new Nest Cam IQ to see if it could change my opinion.

Google today unveiled a new look for its 14-year-old news reader that makes the web service much easier to digest. The Google News page now has three sections located at the center of the homepage: a top headlines list, a local list, and a personalized “For You” section containing stories in interest areas you’ve preselected. AMD promised to start shipping its new generation of video cards in late June, and now here we are with Radeon Vega Frontier Edition cards in our virtual shopping carts. AMD has also filled in a few more technical details on the high-end GPU, and clarified the most important spec: price. The air cooled model is $999, while the liquid cooled version is $1499.
