Rudy Gobert: I feel better than I've ever felt

0

Jon Krawczynski: I asked Gobert if he feels like his old self: “Not even my old self. I feel better than I’ve ever felt, because I feel like I’m stronger than I’ve been. The experience that I have now, you add that to the rest of the abilities that I have, I think that’s the best that I’ve been.”

What’s the buzz on Twitter?

I asked Gobert if he feels like his old self: “Not even my old self. I feel better than I’ve ever felt, because I feel like I’m stronger than I’ve been. The experience that I have now, you add that to the rest of the abilities that I have, I think that’s the best that I’ve been.” – 4:24 PM

Rudy Gobert on Anthony Edwards having 14 rebounds in the opener:
“That’s the thing I really like about Ant, he can impact the game not just by his scoring ability. And a lot of times his rebounding is probably gonna win us some games, even on an off night. To me, that’s the mark… – 4:04 PM

My experience with Rudy Gobert last year was that when he’s frustrated about a game or something they’re not doing, you can tell. He usually tells us.
Which is why I thought it was noteworthy today when I asked a random question about the defense that he seemed genuinely excited… – 3:13 PM

The Wolves’ starting lineup tonight of Edwards, Gobert, Alexander-Walker, Conley and Towns posted an offensive rating of 81.3 in 15 minutes of playing time. – 11:22 PM

Decent half. Raptors had some trouble with the size of Gobert/Towns, ANT remains a problem, and their offence is clearly a work in progress. But the ball is moving (14 assists on 18 FGM) and the energy is there (13 fast-break points). They lead by 2. – 8:48 PM

Shockingly, Raptors having a hard time handling Gobert and/or Towns in the paint – 8:24 PM

The game started very Ant-centric — KAT didn’t score in his first stint on the floor, while playing the 4 next to Gobert.
But then KAT checks in late in the 1st at the 5 (with Naz at the 4) and here are the next 5 possessions…
– KAT postup bucket
– KAT missed 3
– KAT postup… – 8:13 PM

36/30.8/50 shooting quarter for the Raptors, but their defence (which has mostly been solid) has ’em tied going into Q2. Edwards (12), Towns (7) and Gobert (5) have 24 of Minnesota’s 25 points. 9 Raps have played and 6 have scored, led by Schroder’s 7 points. – 8:12 PM
Christopher Hine @ChristopherHine
End of the first quarter, both teams shooting like it’s the first game. Tied at 25. Edwards with 12, Towns with 7, Gobert with 5. They’re the only three of the 9 Wolves who played who scored a field goal. – 8:11 PM

More on this storyline

Sky Cave Retreats gained notoriety earlier this year when Aaron Rodgers participated in a darkness retreat before deciding the next step in his career, which led the quarterback to force a trade from the Packers to the Jets. Rudy Gobert, who meditates frequently on his own, wanted the chance to experience this for himself. In May, in one of the company’s hobbit-like holes, he entered a small door that led to a room underground, where he spent the next 64 hours: three nights and two days. -via Minneapolis Star-Tribune / October 21, 2023
“It was a really powerful experience,” said Gobert, whose team opens the NBA season on Wednesday in Toronto. “In our society, we’re constantly distracted, whether it’s phone, music or noise, and most of us don’t get to be alone or with ourselves. Even if we’re alone, we don’t get to face ourselves. When you’re in the dark and there’s no distraction, you get to be with yourself, and it can be uncomfortable, but I think for every human being on Earth, I think it’s a good thing to do because it really makes you grow.” -via Minneapolis Star-Tribune / October 21, 2023
This wouldn’t be a bad trip for Gobert, nor would it lead him to a radical change in career, as it had done for Rodgers. Instead, he experienced a lot of positive emotions. “I came out of there like I was born again,” Gobert said. “I was really grateful for my journey, and I really felt like I was exactly where I was supposed to be in my journey right now.” When he heard Gobert was interested in a darkness retreat, Scott Berman, the owner and operator of Sky Cave Retreats, had some work to do. “We had to retrofit the bed,” Berman said. -via Minneapolis Star-Tribune / October 21, 2023
