Nikola Jokic on Chet Holmgren: He needs to be a little bit fatter

0

Clutch Points: ikola Jokic says Thunder rookie Chet Holmgren needs to get “fatter” 😂 “He’s a really talented guy, but this is his first year. He’s still learning everything… I think he needs to be a little bit fatter, to be honest. But yes, he has a talent that is unique.” (via @BennettDurando ) pic.twitter.com/2hdUNWBKEj

Also, I love how people are going at Chet Holmgren for Nikola Jokic pushing him around today to score inside, like Jokic didn’t just do the same thing to Anthony Davis in the opener lol.
Like, that’s not a Holmgren or AD thing. That’s just a Jokic being unstoppable thing lol – 6:34 PM

Chet Holmgren said he learned he has to “be better” he highlighted sure you can “try to shrug it off and say hey that’s a two time MVP, but this is the NBA” mentioned how he has to be better and you go up against great players evert night. – 6:25 PM

Chet on Jokic: “There’s definitely a lot of things that he does that’s hard to replicate.” – 6:23 PM

One thing I talked about in the video I did on Chet Holmgren yesterday: I love how OKC is using early Jalen Williams screens to free Chet as a trailer. Think it’s a smart quick hitter to try to take advantage of what Chet can do with the ball.

Jokic is 28, an NBA champion, the overwhelming favorite to win his third MVP with a game that should age extremely well. Starting to think that the only thing that could keep Jokic off an NBA Mt. Rushmore is him deciding in his early 30’s that he wants to do something else. – 5:31 PM

Also, the Nuggets are a terrible matchup for OKC. You can’t play small against Jokic and Aaron Gordon. Even if you are an elite small team like the Thunder – 5:07 PM

Pace of Nuggets-Thunder is pretty fast. Both teams getting up and down and trying to attack in semi-transition.
Joker and MPJ each have 9 points. The touch on the shots inside the arc has been great for both.
Holmgren with 9 points on the other end. He’s super skilled. – 3:57 PM

KCP and Jokic have been running more PnR and DHO action than last year through the first 2 games of the season.
The turnover on that last possession was a chemistry turnover. KCP thought roll, Jokic thought pop. – 3:56 PM

More on this storyline

Brandon Rahbar: Chet Holmgren on what he learned playing against Nikola Jokic: “I personally have to be better. Obviously, he’s a great player, you can shrug it off, ‘2 time MVP player.’ But you gotta take it to heart and figure out what you can do to be better.” -via Twitter @BrandonRahbar / October 29, 2023
The Grizzlies, last season’s No. 2 seed in the West, kept the game consistently hectic and kept Nikola Jokic in check, with two former Defensive Players of the Year (Jaren Jackson Jr. and Marcus Smart) nagging him constantly. “They’re a really good home court team. They’re a really tough team,” Jokic told The Post. “Back in the day, since I came here eight, nine years ago, they were always a tough team to beat here.” With 6:05 remaining, an unsuspecting Jokic was stripped by Derrick Rose for his eighth turnover. (He ended up with nine, the most in a single game since he had 10 last Nov. 3 in Oklahoma City.) Rose’s ensuing fast-break layup cut Denver’s lead to 95-93 and forced a Michael Malone timeout. Smart’s 15-footer less than two minutes later gave the Grizzlies a 98-97 lead, their first since 4-2. -via Denver Post / October 28, 2023
It looked like Mitchell and the Cavs had left the Thunder for dead. But then Lu Dort, who had 25 points on 9-of-13 shooting, made a 3-pointer to cut Cleveland’s lead to seven.  Then came an SGA 3-pointer 30 seconds later and a Jalen Williams 3-pointer 30 seconds after that.  Those shots led up to the biggest of all: A Chet Holmgren triple to tie the game 102-102 with a minute left.  Cleveland’s lead had evaporated in a snap.  Dort clinched the win with a go-ahead layup and dogged one-on-one defense against Mitchell.  “I’m one of the best defenders in the NBA,” Dort said. “I train for those types of moments. He’s a really tough cover, he’s a really great player. He probably had 40 something, I don’t know much he had, but it was tough. It was tough. At least it was not easy.” -via The Oklahoman / October 28, 2023
Kevin O’Connor: Chet Holmgren in his second game: 16 points 13 rebounds 7 blocks Chet hit a massive 3 to tie the game late. Already impacts the game in so many ways…I’m seeing triple doubles with blocks in his future. pic.twitter.com/7u9CG5GAA3 -via Twitter @KevinOConnorNBA / October 28, 2023
