Pascal Siakam on Raptors: We're all trying to figure it out as a team

Josh Lewenberg: Pascal Siakam-“I’m trying to figure it out, we’re all trying to figure it out as a team. We knew it wasn’t going to be easy. Everything is new and there’s going to be rough times. As long as we don’t go away from each other during those times we can continue to fight and see it through”

It’s still early, but the warning signs are there. The offence isn’t working for Pascal Siakam — or anyone else.

It’s been less than crisp but that makes it fun, you never know what might happen – 8:33 PM

Siakam and 4 subs (Flynn, Trent, Dick, Boucher) 8 minutes into the game. Imagine saying that last season. – 7:57 PM

Clearly, Siakam is highly motivated tonight, and his teammates seem highly motivated to get him the ball. 4 minutes in and he’s already halfway to Saturday’s 8 FGA. He’s got 6 early points on 3-4 FG, and he’s doing it in a tough matchup vs Jerami Grant. – 7:49 PM
Eric Koreen @ekoreen
Siakam has been shot out of a cannon here. Just completely shut down Jerami Grant on a possession. – 7:45 PM

Rajakovic on Siakam, who only attempted 8 shots vs PHI: “I as a coach, we as a group, we need to do a better job of finding him in his spots and putting him in better situations… He’s really bought in, he’s really trying to do the right thing, everything we’re asking him to do” – 6:01 PM

Siakam averaged a career-most & team-high 18.5 shots last season & didn’t take fewer than 10 in any of his 71 games. He’s taken 8 tonight. His attempts were destined to come down in fewer minutes & with a more balanced offensive system, but he needs to be more involved than this. – 9:48 PM
Ryan Wolstat @WolstatSun
Pascal Siakam just took his seventh shot of the game and first since the third quarter with 3:07 to go in this game. Weird stuff. Three shots in the first quarter, four since. – 9:42 PM
Doug Smith @SmithRaps
Solid finish to the half, Raptors up 59-56 at the break, Trent’s got 14, SIakam 11 on 4 FGAs – 8:37 PM

Keeping with tradition, Gary Trent Jr. slides into a Raptors starting slot with SchrÔder, Barnes, Siakam and Poeltl. It’s Maxey, Melton, Harris, Tucker and Embiid for the Philadelphias – 7:10 PM

Last night’s Last-Two Minute Report actually sets your computer on fire when you open it.
Five mistakes identified by league, including saying the offensive foul call on Siakam when going for inbound against Caruso was incorrect. – 4:02 PM

More on this storyline

Jay Mandavia: Hi Marc – what’s the latest on Siakam? Will he be traded? Marc Stein: Don’t think there’s gonna be a “latest” there until the seaason gets going and the Raptors assess how they want to move forward. -via Marc Stein’s Substack / October 22, 2023
Most notably, Pascal Siakam did not take one midranger. He shot one time from the restricted area, twice from just outside it and twice from 3-point territory. Due to his contractual situation and the “selfishness” conversation that ended last year and started this one, there will be a close monitoring of Siakam’s decision-making. Earlier in the week, Rajaković said he hoped the Raptors’ offensive changes would make Siakam more efficient by emphasizing him moving more without the ball. “He’s doing a great job of cutting and playing without the ball and spacing, and you cannot hide the talent on the floor,” Rajaković said earlier in the week. “He is extremely talented and (an) extremely high-quality player. The ball is always going to find the best players on the court.” -via The Athletic / October 10, 2023
