Mike Budenholzer 'at the tip of everyone's tongue' for Nets job
Michael Scotto: I asked Sean Marks after hiring first-time head coaches Kenny Atkinson and Steve Nash if he’d look to hire a guy with previous coaching experience. He said no and that it’ll be a robust search. However, in talking with many rival executives around the league and other sources, there’s a belief that a former head coach would most likely make sense if you’re trying to retool instead of rebuild. Mike Budenholzer is the name at the tip of everyone’s tongue when discussing potential Nets coaching candidates due to his Spurs tree connection, winning a championship, and he’s arguably the most notable name on the market. James Borrego also comes up. I’m sure someone will throw out Jay Wright because he has a connection with Mikal Bridges, but that would take time. I don’t see it.

More on this storyline
Michael Scotto: There seems to be this false narrative out there that the Brooklyn Nets are building around Mikal Bridges as the No. 1 option. While Bridges is certainly a part of the core, and I’d include Cam Johnson and Nic Claxton – who, again, the Nets want to re-sign in unrestricted free agency – the ultimate plan is to add another star or two around Bridges via trade or free agency while Bridges is on a team-friendly contract for the next two seasons. Bridges said publicly at practice that he wants to remain a Net and wasn’t raised to want to leave when things get tough. I think it’s pretty clear they’re keeping Bridges based on our reporting from the Rockets trade talks. -via HoopsHype / February 21, 2024
Brian Lewis: Mikal Bridges claims he’s “100%” confident in #Nets future: “I’m here now & want to stay here and I’m going to keep grinding and getting to wherever we’ve got to get to win. That’s why I’m here for. I’m here to win and all that other sh1t don’t me nothing with the accolades” -via Twitter @NYPost_Lewis / February 20, 2024
Erik Slater: Mikal Bridges on remaining with the Nets long-term: “I wasn’t raised when things get tough to wanna get out… A lot of people might think about different teams… I got my boys over in New York, so obviously everybody goes with that… But I’m here now and I wanna stay here.” pic.twitter.com/ZYl39Tp8pB -via Twitter @erikslater_ / February 20, 2024
