Warriors had serious talks about acquiring Kelly Olynyk, Alex Caruso
While Golden State also held serious talks with Utah about acquiring veteran center Kelly Olynyk, sources said, and engaged Chicago about landing versatile defender Alex Caruso, Kuminga and Wiggins have thrived, side by side, in the Warriors’ revamped lineup — especially now that Draymond Green has returned from a month’s long suspension.

Regarding lack of depth with Williams/Craig/LaVine out, Billy Donovan said one thing he’s hoping to do with load on DeRozan/Craig/Caruso is to lessen amount of consecutive minutes they play. So some shorter stints but minutes will have to stay close because lack of healthy bodies – 1:36 PM

But while we heard lots about the people the Warriors didn’t trade away, we hadn’t heard as many rumors about players they were targeting. But Tuesday brought a little nugget on that front. Speaking on his The Lowe Post podcast, ESPN’s Zach Lowe revealed that the Warriors made a run at two solid veterans: big man Kelly Olynyk and guard Alex Caruso. “They were pretty active at the trade deadline, from what I heard, in terms of buying,” Lowe said in a conversation with Steve Jones Jr. of The Dunker Spot. “They are operating like a team who’s like, ‘If we have Steph, we’re trying to win.’ They looked hard at Olynyk, I’m not quite sure what was going out in that deal. I actually heard it wasn’t Moses Moody. You’d think it was — I’m not sure that it was. Obviously it wasn’t Kuminga or Podziemski. Kuminga was a hard no from the start. Caruso — they would have loved to get Caruso from the Bulls, I just don’t think there was any common ground there. Those were the two names that I heard a lot of.” -via SB Nation / February 14, 2024

The Bulls, league sources say, wound up giving real consideration to trading Caruso on Deadline Day after insisting for weeks that they wouldn’t. But Chicago’s talks with Golden State ultimately collapsed and then the Bulls, league sources say, informed Philadelphia that they were keeping Andre Drummond, too, with the Sixers pressing to acquire the former All-Star center. -via marcstein.substack.com / February 20, 2024
