I know there are some on here who like books about violent individuals and groups. The other day I came across a book on Paul Sykes, a legendary Yorkshire hard man and boxer. There was a documentary I remember seeing about him years ago, and I remembered he was touted as a potential heavyweight champ before an altercation with 4 bouncers scuppered his chances. Actually, the book scotched that, it wasn't 4 bouncers and it was a fight with Lenny the guvnor Mcleam that was scuppered, but what the feck. Читать дальше...

The documentary was interesting. He tried too hard to come across as a deep thinker, but wasn't, really - but he was full of himself and his mental ability, although he was no dummy. Reminded me a bit of Joey Barton in that way - I think Paul Sykes drank himself to death in the end. Not a lot of love lost between him and his dad, who - ironically - was a prison officer.

I don't know if it's been mentioned, but Newport County went out of business in the late '80's. They reformed, but as a different business, which obviously isn't the same thing. I have a feeling that the same thing happened to Barrow, who I remember in the Football League (I still have a Workington Town FC Reserves v Barrow Reserves programme from the early sixties - what a glamorous clash that must have been!).

Maidstone, Scarborough, Chester, Rushden & Diamonds and Halifax are all different entities to the ones that played in the League.

There were loads in the more distant past. Aberdare, Wigan Borough, Nelson, the current Gateshead is not the same as the one from the 1950s. Indeed the current Accrington Stanley is not the same entity as the one that resigned in 1961.

In Scotland there have been a fair few recently; Gretna, Airdrie, Clydebank. Meadowbank were moved to Livingston.

Been there a few times, the last was when we were relegated 2011. They had quailed with us for The Europa league. We'd had all the banter during the game. At the end them and us were chanting "Thursday night, channel 5" in unison. Think it was channel 5 who covered it then. Always liked my visits to WHL.

Yeah I read that tweet from gay boy tony earlier today , he did say in the tweet things are a bit bad at the moment npand we will need to be a bit careful in the summer but it's nothing to worry about . Well he will say that won't he he's not going to come out and shout jump we are drowning in debt Is he , let's sit back and watch the tossers fall all around us while hopefully we will rise above them .
