It was 27 years ago today since John Gayle scored a double as Blues beat Tranmere 3-2 at the old Wembley Stadium to win the Leyland DAF Cup. (thanks to John Smullen for this)
Looking back it was a bit of a meaningless trophy, but it was Blues first visit to the Stadium in some 35+ years and it meant a hell of a lot to the Blues fans, and was a turning point for a club that had been in decline for 10 years at least.
