Adrian Doherty- the reluctant football star. (2 replies)

Don’t know if anyone on here has ever read the book ‘Forever Young’ about Adrian Doherty. My son bought me a copy of it a few years back (it won an award for the best football book of 2016).

Anyway, I was reminded of it today when I spotted a tweet by the book’s author, Oliver Kay, saying that today would have been Adrian’s 50th birthday, had he not died in his late 20s falling into a canal in Amsterdam.

I was in conversation with me brother the other day and he mentioned that he had seen George best playing for hibs and Geoff Hurst playing for Telford. Legs had gone ect but still suitably impressed.
He also said that he had seen greavsie towards the end of his career and he was pissed and awful ( Jimmy not my brother,,,)

I was thinking of Nat Lofthouse, but just a touch early for me. I suppose you might have got to see Jackie Milburn and Billy Wright as well?

Did you see the catch to dismiss Gill? Not blaming the Aussies at all but now there is no soft signal I don’t follow how a TV umpire could have given a definitive ‘out’ for it - there was just too much doubt for me.

Digbeth is probably your best shout. As well as Hennesseys and Nortons you’ve got the Spotted Dog, the bars around the custard factory and places like the Ruin on Floodgate Street.

Me too, scary stuff, we stood our ground shoulder to shoulder to the end though even charging them a few times despite being vastly outnumbered.

Good old Blues ????. I was in there as well. My mate got his front tooth knocked out. He was ugly anyway.

Would he be more than 2 - 3 million? Im not so sure if you give him a 5 year deal that doesnt work out as much on the ffp. Fwiw i would prefer Trusty over sanderson if doable.

There are 20 of us coming down for Saturday's play and we are out for a few scoops after the game (just in case we can't get enough during the day). I was originally thinking of walking up to Moseley, but then wondering if it will be rammed with plenty people having the same idea.

I am very proud of our city, so would like to show it in the best light possible, and impress our friends from Sheffield.

I’m retiring soon and cannot wait to no longer have to do the drive home to Sutton from Balsall Heath- absolutely crazy the driving in that part of Brum. And completely unpoliced.

Since Christmas, I’ve taken the train most days instead- involves a one hour walk to and from Five Ways station to work, but so much more relaxing.

There’s no point pussy footing around this.. Something really needs to be done about this.

We’ve been in Rome the last couple of days, this city defines history! We got on the train at Okehampton station last Thursday, by the evening we were In Cologne. A stop over before Foggia, a stop over before Milan then a stop over before Torre Del Greco for 3 nights.

The latter the centre for coral jewellery. (All ethical these days). This wasn’t something we knew before, but it’s applicable as its our 35th anniversary (coral!)
