Parking in Digbeth (6 replies)
Well, imagine my shock when I saw that EVERY-SINGLE BLOODY STREET now has a parking restriction of some kind. Either a 'parking permit' is required - between 08:00 and 18:00 Monday to Friday - or there is a charging mechanism in place, with the amount (to be paid) dependent on the length of stay but for a maximum of 4 hours.
As I was to volunteer for around 5 hours, I could not park on any of the streets (instead, I had to pay £4 to use a car park).
As I was walking back to my car, I saw a 'Civil Enforcement Officer' (label it however you want mate - you're a parking inspector). I asked him "what the hell [has] happened to the parking arrangement on the streets around here"; he told me that because of the restrictions which had been applied in Highgate, the same rules and regulations had to be used in Digbeth. He then told me that the 'parking permit' scheme has yet to be activated, hence any car can park in such a zone. Great- so I have unnecessarily spent £4.
I asked him about parking on match-days, when Blues are at home: he told me that it will be "chaos".
Now, I don't know if all of the restrictions apply 24/7 - it might be that they're applicable only Monday to Friday and until 18:00. Still, I think it's sh!t. Really sh!t.
