Flicking that switch
With the events of the last couple of days , i suspect many felt as confused as i did about the decision to fire off JE and bring in Rooney.
I don't think many would deny that we have shown progress this year on the playing side of things and arguments can be made that we have been lucky/unlucky here and there but as it stands we are in the playoff position so all in all not bad , right ?
Now that i have had a bit of time to digest the happenings i have to say initially i was a bit dismayed at JE's sacking i thought , he'd done a reasonably decent job and deserved a bit of time to see how things played out and spent yesterday in conversations with fans of other clubs who thought like me that it was a crazy thing to do .
Now I'm sure like many of you i have read what's written watched the reports on the telly and the general consensus seemed to be why Rooney ?
So now we kind of get to the crux of my thinking as to why this all happened , I have been going down the blues for 50+ years , in all my time going we have been at best 3rd rate , we are that yappy little terrier in the corner of the dog pound that occasionally gets to steal a little bone from under the nose of the alpha dog , that is how we are seen by others in the game and that is what we have been CONDITIONED to expect.
Now we have new owners things look a little different , for the first time in my lifetime we have owners who seem determined to see us become one of those alpha dogs and have the means to make it happen , too many people are used to mediocrity and accepting the occasional bone that falls from the table and our new owners are not going to accept that , the comment about "no fear football" and the (assumed) appointment of Rooney says to me that the owners are intent on walking up to that big juicy bone claiming it and stuff everybody else.
I happen to think that Rooney probably won't turn out to be the next Pep or Klopp but i don't think that's the intention behind all of this , what he does bring to the table though is knowledge on what it takes to be successful in this sport , to be able to change the mindset from " that's ok " to " i effing want it. its mine , i'm going to take it "
We as a club and supporters need to flick that switch and i think that the recent goings on is that switch being flicked from "ok" to "lets take it all"
