'Enforcer' type midfielders

(First of all, this isn't a criticism of any players nor performances, in case someone gets the hump)

How relevant/utilised are they in the modern game, especially in more successful and higher pressing teams?

Over the years I've always been a fan of your Kiefs'/Sunjics' and even Bieliks' who put in a shift, maybe aren't the best passers of the ball but certainly leave nothing out there on the pitch.

However, Rooney here to stay, and this style of football now being embedded within our culture, do we now steer away from these type of players or do they still have a role in football and more importantly, Blues?!
