As far as video game adaptations go, Castlevania is certainly one of the best. In fact, the television show, which just premiered its first four episodes on Netflix, could serve as a starting point for future creatives tasked with adapting interactive entertainment into a passive, scripted program.

Sony’s PlayStation Vue service has gotten rid of its cheapest TV package, pushing the service’s starting point to $40 a month. The over-the-top service ended its Slim package, which started at $30 a month in cities where Sony didn’t have rights to the local NBC, ABC, and Fox affiliates.

Google Calendar users on iOS, rejoice: the official Google Calendar app for iPhone and iPad has finally gotten a Today widget, allowing you to preview upcoming events at a glance from the “Today’ section of the notification shade and lock screen, as spotted by 9to5Mac.

Scientists have resurrected a long-extinct virus closely related to smallpox, and all it took was $100,000 and some mail-ordered chunks of DNA. The research, reported as news in the journal Science, could provide a road map to reconstructing the genome for one of the deadliest viruses the world has ever seen. And some scientists fear the information could help terrorists create dangerous biological weapons.

Facebook and Google have confirmed their participation in a wide-scale net neutrality protest scheduled for July 12th, according to Fortune. The protest is being called the “Internet-wide Day of Action to Save Net Neutrality,” or “Day of Action” and “Battle for the Net” for short. Spotify is testing a new Driving Mode feature, according to some users who have posted on Reddit. A few users have been given access to a new feature that allows them to enable a driving mode which enlarges buttons, announces songs, and features voice controls (which aren’t active yet).

Spider-Man: Homecoming has finally been released. And when you see it, you’re going to notice a lot of differences between this and previous cinematic versions of the Marvel character. One major change: his spider sense is hardly mentioned.

Google has slowly been changing Chrome OS to make it work better with touchscreens. And a new video, first spotted by Engadget, shows that some much bigger changes are in the works.

Some people buy newspapers to remember historical events. Others buy customized Nokia smartphones. As first spotted by TechCrunch, a Russian phone-customization company debuted its latest creation this week: a new Nokia 3310 with embedded, gold-plated portraits of US president Donald Trump and Russian president Vladimir Putin on the back. The phone is meant to commemorate the two world leaders meeting at the G-20 Summit in Hamburg.

Sticky AI is a new app from Prisma Labs, the second product from the developer following the company’s eponymous AI-powered art filter app that took the web by storm last summer.

There’s the technology we use and see every day — the smartphones, laptops, apps, cameras, and cars that permeate our lives — and then there’s the technology being developed behind the scenes, the technology that is yet to be seen. Or, it’s out there, but it’s so new that its impact is still unknown. This is the next-level stuff.

Even though the technology is starting to look a little behind the times in these days of ProMotion screens and OLED smartwatches, I still really like E Ink. There’s nothing quite like it for outdoor visibility, and even away from sunlight there’s something to be said for a display that doesn’t suck much power or blast light in your face.

When my girlfriend left for a two-week tour of the Balkans, I decided the time was right to try out a new streaming service. Filmstruck has been on my list since it launched in November, carrying the full force of Criterion’s massive back catalog behind it. With lots of free time on my hands (and no one to complain about my penchant for heist movies), it seemed like the perfect time for the 14-day free trial.

Google is giving the Press Association news agency a grant of €706,000 ($806,000) to start writing stories with the help of artificial intelligence. The money is coming out of the tech giant’s Digital News Initiative fund, which supports digital journalism in Europe. The PA supplies news stories to media outlets all over the UK and Ireland, and will be working with a startup named Urbs Media to produce 30,000 local stories a month with the help of AI.

Twitter bots that were used in support of Donald Trump during last year’s presidential campaign were also used to target Emmanuel Macron ahead of France’s presidential election, a new study has found. The findings suggest that there may be a “black-market for reusable political-disinformation bots,” according to the author of the paper, which was submitted for peer review this month.
