The Verge

We’re less than one month away from the day when Tesla plans to unveil its first electric semi truck, and of course that means it’s time for speculation and sleuthing to skyrocket. Today’s fodder is a picture of what could be the Tesla big rig that was posted to, deleted from, and reposted to Reddit overnight by a user who nabbed the photo in time. Intrigue!

Cuphead, Ruiner, and the joy of really hard games

The Verge

It took me 14 tries before I reached the psychic carrot. First, I had to get past an incredibly angry potato, who hurled giant balls of dirt and worms my way at irregular intervals. When I finally defeated the spud, I moved on to an onion who cried a storm’s worth of damaging tears. But the carrot was the real challenge. Possessing the ability to both fire homing missiles (in the form of tiny carrots, of course) and shoot out laser beams from its third eye, I struggled to avoid its deadly onslaught. Читать дальше...

Waymo vs. Uber: unsealed court documents reveal damning evidence

The Verge

The due diligence report that Uber fought so hard to keep from being used in its legal battle with Waymo and Alphabet was made public on Monday — and it’s easy to see why Uber resisted as hard as it did. The document, prepared by cybersecurity firm Stroz Friedberg as part of Uber’s acquisition of self-driving trucking startup Otto, describes a thorough forensic review of personal devices belonging to five people at Otto, including the much-embattled Anthony Levandowski, who earlier this year attempted... Nura is finally ready to ship Kickstarter headphones that correct for hearing

The Verge

Nura came to Kickstarter last year with the goal of funding a pair of headphones that would adapt to every listener and improve the way they heard music. The company was looking for $100,000. It ended up getting $1.8 million and then going on to raise much, much more from venture capitalists — an additional $7 million, according to Crunchbase. Now, a year and a half after the company’s debut, it’s finally preparing to ship that original product: the Nuraphones, a $399 pair of wireless, hearing-correcting headphones. Читать дальше...

Ikea's multi-color smart bulbs are now widely available

The Verge

Ikea smart lighting is now a lot more colorful thanks to the broad availability of the first RGB lights in the company’s TRÅDFRI range. The E27-sized bulbs (the standard chubby ones used in lamps) began sneaking into stores around the world last month; now they're on the Ikea website where a spot-check of its physical stores shows plenty of stock across the US. They aren't available to purchase on-line, however, and they're currently only listed as a $34.99 bundle kit with one LED light bulb and one battery-powered dimmer. Читать дальше...

Toys R Us releases an AR app that lets you interact with its failing stores

The Verge

When Toys R Us filed for bankruptcy protection last month, retail juggernauts like Walmart and Amazon were cited as the reasons behind the company’s woes. Now, in efforts to try and attract more customers to its shops and add a technological edge like its competitors, Toys R Us has released an AR app that lets users interact with its stores. AR has seen a surge in popularity thanks in part to a wave of new iPhone apps developed with Apple’s ARKit. Toys R Us is hoping to ride that wave.

Bowers & Wilkins launches PX noise-canceling headphones with USB-C charging

The Verge

If I had to list the most commonly requested features from readers looking for headphone-buying advice, it would look something like this: wireless, noise canceling, stylish, and preferably easy to hook up with something universal like a USB-C connector. Alright, so the last item on that list is primarily my own desire, but pardon me for getting excited to see that Bowers & Wilkins’ first noise-canceling cans, the PX, do indeed feature the same charging port as my phone and laptop. One charger to rule them all! Читать дальше...

PlayStation chief Andrew House is leaving Sony after 27 years

The Verge

Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced president and CEO Andrew House will be stepping down after helming the arm since 2011, with deputy president John Kodera taking his place. House, who is 52, will remain as chairman until the end of the year. Sony’s Playstation arm flourished under House, which saw the company come back on top in the gaming industry. House drove the strategy and launch of the PS4, which is set to touch cumulative sales of 78 million units this fiscal year. Under his tenure... Читать дальше...

Facebook showed Russia’s election ads to 10 million people

The Verge

Facebook says that it displayed Russia’s divisive election ads to 10 million people, most of whom saw the ads after the election was over. It’s not clear how many impressions that equates to (it’s possible one person saw multiple ads), but Facebook says that 44 percent of the ads were displayed before the 2016 election, and 56 percent came after. Facebook says it’s identified more than 3,000 ads in total, stemming from a Kremlin-linked group known as the Internet Research Agency.

Tesla is behind on Model 3 production

The Verge

Tesla has produced 260 Model 3s since the car’s launch this summer, meaning the company is behind the original target of around 1,600 mentioned by CEO Elon Musk on Twitter in July. Of those produced, 220 were delivered. “Production bottlenecks” are to blame for the poor starting pace, according to Tesla, which says that “a handful” of manufacturing subsystems at both its California plant and Nevada Gigafactory “have taken longer to activate than expected.”

Pixel 2 could launch in two weeks, Pixel 2 XL next month

The Verge

Google’s Pixel event is happening just two days from now, but it sounds like we’ll have to wait at least two more weeks after that before the first devices start shipping.
