Twitter’s latest attempt to help users find more relevant and popular tweets across its platform is a new set of lists specific to ongoing sports matches. CNBC reports today that Amazon is trying to figure out ways to ensure deliveries make it to their destinations. The company is reportedly in talks to partner with Phrame, a maker of “smart” license plate frames that serve as a secure box for car key storage. CNBC notes that people could remotely unlock the box and give delivery drivers access to their car's trunk so a package can be securely left behind. Phrame notes on its website that users can give "secured one-time and time-limited access... Читать дальше...
If you missed out on the first batch of SNES Classics, then good news: GameStop will have another batch of the miniature retro consoles this week. The bad news? The company isn’t really giving exact details as to where or when you’ll be able to pick one up, so it’s still a bit of a crapshoot as to whether or not you’ll get one.

After a decade of silence, the classic camera company Yashica has returned with a new product — one that resembles its analog heritage, even if it doesn’t remotely begin to speak to it. The new product is a digital camera called the Y35 that looks just like Yashica’s old Electro 35 film camera. Except the Y35 has a distinctly modern twist: instead of using film, it uses “digiFilm,” which are essentially physical plugins that add different photo filters to the camera.

Snapchat today is introducing context cards, which add contextual information to geotagged photos and images shared in public stories. Snaps added to the regional Our Story feature, or those sent with the white-text, venue-specific geofilter, will include the cards automatically. Users can swipe up on any snap that displays the word “more” and they’ll see an interactive card pop up with contextual information about the place in question. Partners supplying information for the cards include Foursquare... Читать дальше...
The second trailer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi is finally here, and it’s a doozy. There are some impressive battles and visuals, but what stands out the most is how this trailer shows off the tension that both Kylo Ren and Rey have with their respective mentors, and it’s clearly terrifying to Luke.

It’s nearing the end of the year, and Star Wars fans have much to be grateful for. The latest trailer for The Last Jedi dropped last night, and tickets to the flick are now on sale for select parts of the US. Samsung wants to get in on the sci-fi action, with the launch of a new Star Wars-themed version of its Powerbot vacuum cleaner that can apparently clean from “hardwood to Hoth,” the company quips.

Last week, Vice President Mike Pence announced a bold new mission for NASA: creating a sustained human presence, perhaps like a lunar base, on the Moon’s surface. It’s a big change for the agency, which has been focused on going to Mars for the last seven years. But just saying NASA is going to do something isn’t enough for the space agency to actually accomplish a task. Ambitious programs require extra money and sustained commitment from Congress in order to become a reality.

A year after releasing the first Arlo Pro security camera, Netgear is back with another one. The newly announced Arlo Pro 2 is a minor update that rounds out the camera with some sorely missing features: the new model supports 1080p video capture (instead of just 720p) and also offers the ability to set alert zones, so that you can tell the camera to ping you when, say, someone is walking on your lawn but not when someone’s walking on your sidewalk. That feature was supposed to launch on the original camera, but apparently never did. Читать дальше...

This past weekend, Microsoft made official what was already known for years: the Windows Phone mobile operating system is dead. There’ll be no further development, no miraculous Windows 10 Mobile revivals, and no further attempts to compete with the overwhelming duopoly of Apple’s iOS and Google’s Android. The new Microsoft, led by Satya Nadella, prefers collaboration over competition — or at least that’s the choice the company tells itself it has made in abandoning its thwarted mobile OS venture. This past weekend, Denis Villeneuve’s Blade Runner 2049 arrived in theaters. It is, in many ways, the most improbable of sequels, following a cult sci-fi film 35 years after the original flamed out at the box office. Yet the movie has been universally praised as a creative success, racking up some of the most impressive reviews of the year. It’s an ambitious, visually decadent film, and one that’s captivating despite a nearly three-hour run time.

In the mid-‘90s, Bandai pioneered the handheld digital pet. Tamagotchi, tiny keychain toys, started as virtual eggs that players hatched and nurtured into adulthood by offering food and care. The toy spawned its share of competitor knockoffs, like the Gigapet, before fading into the memories of those who grew up with them. They’ve resurfaced throughout the years as fashion accessories and even an app, but never quite like the widespread phenomenon they once were.

The most annoying toy of 2017 is almost certainly the humble fidget spinner. For a short while it was ubiquitous: sold in supermarkets, dodgy corner stores, and basically anywhere you can drop money. Kim Kardashian had her own branded version, and Arcade Fire even put their new album on one for $109 a pop. My friend has one and has played with it so much she can spin it and balance it on her nose at the same time. And now, there’s a phone version.
