This Stranger Things DVD looks like an old VHS tape

The Verge

If you’ve caught Stranger Things at all during its first or second season, you’ll have seen how much it relies on the nostalgia factor. Old Ataris, Eggos, Three Musketeer candy bars at Halloween, and plenty of old 80’s music make the show feel like a trip in a time machine. The show also has plenty of VHS tapes, which its characters use to record important memories and re-watch favorite films.

New trailers: Phantom Thread, World of Tomorrow, and more

The Verge

I've been watching the new Netflix series Mindhunter over the past couple weeks. I'm not finished with it yet, but I've really been absorbed by the interviews the main characters start to do with imprisoned serial killers a few episodes into the series — some of which are apparently almost verbatim from actual interviews.

RIP John Mollo, who created the iconic costumes of Star Wars

The Verge

When Star Wars hit theaters in 1977, it was unlike any film that audiences had seen, presenting a worn, lived-in feel world for its story. What are you supposed to do with yourself until nighttime, when, if you are an adult, you’re allowed to go inside a bar with spooky decor and drink hot cider with rum or something in it?

Google no longer lets you change domains to search different countries

The Verge

You’ve long been able to get localized search results by visiting Google at different domains — like google.com for the US, google.co.uk for England, or google.co.jp for Japan — but that won’t be the case any more after today. Google said that it’ll now deliver search results relevant to your current location no matter which domain you visit. So if you’re in New York and visit google.ru, you’ll still get results relevant to New York City.
