Franz Wagner on Germany winning FIBA World Cup: 'That was not something that you dreamed of because it was that crazy'

HoopsHype: Atlanta Hawks

After winning the FIBA World Cup, what can you say about Germany’s basketball future? Franz Wagner: I think success like that with the national team sparks a lot of excitement back home, and more kids will start playing basketball at home. I think that’s one of the coolest things about being part of the national team. We’re inspiring the next generation, and hopefully, in 10-15 years, we’ll have a lot more German players, not just in the NBA but in the best leagues around the world. I don’t think... Franz Wagner on Wendell Carter Jr.: 'I think he’s our anchor for our defense when he’s out there'

HoopsHype: Atlanta Hawks

You guys have been playing without Wendell Carter Jr. for a while. What can he bring when he’s back from injury? Franz Wagner: Wendell is extremely versatile for a big man, which makes it super easy to play with him. He’s obviously a big lob threat and super quick out of pick-and-rolls to roll and put pressure on the defense that way. He can shoot it as well. I think the biggest thing is defensively. You can switch with him and play any type of coverage with him in the pick-and-roll. I think he’s... Читать дальше...

Rasheed Wallace attributes Draymond Green's behavior to the 2004 Pistons team: That's our fault

HoopsHype: Atlanta Hawks

According to Rasheed Wallace, Green’s outbursts stem from what he saw in the locker room of Detroit’s 2004 NBA championship team featuring himself, Chauncey Billups, Rip Hamilton, Ben Wallace and Tayshaun Prince. “That’s our fault… [Draymond Green] grew up in [the 2004 Pistons] locker room,” Wallace said on the show. “One of his best friends was the son of the GM, so he was around us… Practice, in the locker room, after games, before games, he heard the different language, and we all know it’s... Herro is doing some basketball stuff (on court just now) but Spo said it’s not known when he will do contact practice

Franz Wagner believes Jamahl Mosley should be Coach of the Year candidate

HoopsHype: Atlanta Hawks

Do you think coach Mosley should be somewhere in the conversation for Coach of the Year? Franz Wagner: Absolutely. I think Mosley has done an incredible job. I think the hardest thing to do is get everybody on the team to be on one page, commit to each other, and commit to the group. So far, I think he’s done a great job with that this year, and hopefully, we can keep winning for him. I think he’s definitely deserving as of right now.

Kelly Oubre says little about reported hit-and-run

HoopsHype: Atlanta Hawks

But in his first media availability since Nov. 11, the day he suffered a broken rib in the reported accident, Oubre said little about the circumstances surrounding it. “First and foremost … I want to say thank you to my family, my friends, the 76ers organization, especially Coach Nurse for the utmost support throughout this whole process,” he said. “But I’ve spoken to the police about this situation and they have an ongoing investigation. So I’ve spoken to whom I need to speak to about it and I’ll keep it … the way it is. Читать дальше...

Brandon Ingram scored 30 points and the New Orleans Pelicans beat the Sacramento Kings 127-117 on Monday night in the quarterfinals of the NBA’s In-Season Tournament. Ingram helped New Orleans erase an early deficit and the Pelicans never trailed in the second half as they advanced to play the winner of Tuesday night’s game between Phoenix and the Los Angeles Lakers in the semifinals Thursday in Las Vegas.

Tyrese Haliburton leads Indiana to In-Season Tournament semifinals

HoopsHype: Atlanta Hawks

All that Tyrese Haliburton wanted before the season was to get his first taste of playoff basketball. Monday night’s NBA In-Season Tournament quarterfinal seemed like the perfect dry run. So the 23-year-old All-Star guard registered the first triple-double of his career, completed a tiebreaking four-point play with 1:33 left and heard the large, raucous crowd chanting “M-V-P! M-V-P!” near the end of Indiana’s 122-112 victory, which ousted league-leading Boston from the tourney. “It means the world... Читать дальше...

Trey Murphy on being teammates with Jordan Hawkins: 'We're one of the best shooting duos in the entire league'

HoopsHype: Atlanta Hawks

“Your first time playing with Hawkins. Those few minutes, what did you see? More space? What’d you think about just getting on the floor and getting to actually play with him for the first time?” Murphy: “It’s great because a lot of times I’ll tell him like, ‘Look, get in the action.’ Just to get guys off of me, get the attention off of me when it comes to shooting, because he pulls that gravity. There’s a three he shot in the first half and I didn’t call for one more, and I told him like, ‘You... Читать дальше...
