He is clearly feeling the frustration, heightened a bit, perhaps, by consecutive losses to the Celtics despite his 29 and 31 points. But if Donovan Mitchell has any existential issues with how the Cavs are swimming in play-in waters, he isn’t splashing on the situation. He’s looking for a way out of this middle earth maze. “We have the pieces,” Mitchell told Heavy Sports. “I think it’s just a matter of getting on the same page as a group. “You know, at the end of the day I can sit here and give you all these answers... Drew Hill: Ja Morant said there is definitely some guilt in the Grizzlies losing games this season. “I take full responsibility for that, even though I’m not out on the floor. My decisions put them in that position.”

Despite a report from Bleacher Report’s Chris Haynes that DeMar DeRozan and the Bulls are “far apart” on agreeing upon a contract extension, the forward says he wants to remain in Chicago. “Chicago is Chicago to me,” DeRozan told the Tribune. “I love it here. Obviously it’s a place I want to be in my career. None of that has changed. I don’t have no other type of doubts or feelings or suggestions to be elsewhere. That don’t cross my mind.”

League sources have previously told NBC Sports Chicago that the New York Knicks, another rumored landing spot for Zach LaVine, have never seriously engaged or shown interest. Same goes, at least for now, for the Philadelphia 76ers and Miami Heat.

NBC Sports Chicago reported previously that management’s main focus is on LaVine’s future. If a market develops for DeRozan between now and the Feb. 8 deadline, it’s an executive’s job to listen, obviously. But DeMar DeRozan is deeply valued internally, not only for his on-court skill but for his off-court mentorship of young players.

Chicago has also attempted swapping LaVine for other All-Star players, such as pitching Cleveland on the concept of acquiring Darius Garland from the Cavaliers, sources said.

And yet the Jazz are mired in an 8-16 start, prompting several teams to phone Utah’s front office in order to gauge its willingness to move Markkanen, sources said. The Jazz are by no means expected to trade the 7-foot sharpshooter at this juncture. He’s been a true favorite of Jazz officials, sources said. But Utah has indeed left opposing executives with the sense that Markkanen is no longer untouchable in trade conversations, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

League personnel believe three teams in particular value the Finnish forward at this preliminary stage of trade conversations. Two of those apparent suitors, Sacramento and Atlanta, make sense, considering the Kings’ and Hawks’ respective approaches for Siakam. The third team league personnel continue mentioning to watch for a potential Markkanen approach is Oklahoma City, suddenly second in the West with a trove of first-round picks.

Before the social-media accusations that Giddey had an improper relationship with a minor, other front offices were beginning to pinpoint Giddey as a quiet trade possibility in his own right, this being his third season without improving into a viable 3-point shooter next to Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. The Australian playmaker becomes extension eligible this summer.

While there has been no tangible evidence that Utah’s stance on Markkanen has changed, there is a rising belief heading into Showcase that a team or two out there is actively planning to test Utah’s resolve this season by making an offer for the Finnish power forward.

On Mavs Media Day, NBA reporter Rachel Nichols spoke with Doncic in a 1-on-1 interview for “Headliners with Rachel Nichols” on Showtime and Paramount+ about his future with the organization. He asked if he’d ever consider requesting a trade from the Mavs if he didn’t feel there was a strong outlook to win a title. “I’m not sure,” Doncic said. “I feel great here. They drafted me. I felt at home since Day 1, so I’m really happy where I’m at, and I think we made some great moves this offseason. But... Читать дальше...
According to league sources I’ve spoken with there is expected to be a fairly robust market for the Raptors veteran, though maybe not the slam dunk of return that makes the deal a no-brainer. The Raptors, under president and general manager Masai Ujiri, aren’t known for selling low.

The Hawks and Raptors discussed various permutations of a trade for Siakam this past summer, with things advancing enough that Atlanta had contacted Siakam’s representation to take measure of how open the eight-year veteran would be to signing an extension with the Hawks if the deal went through.

Olynyk, meanwhile, is in on course to become a free agent in July as he plays out the final season of a three-year, $37 million deal and is regarded in some league circles as the most likely of the Utah vets to move on at some point during the next six-plus weeks.

Hours before the NBA leveled the indefinite suspension, Green told ESPN he intended to call Nurkic to apologize for connecting on the hit and reiterated that he did not intend to hit him. He said he was trying to sell a foul call — that Nurkic was holding his hip — and that he had “flailed.” “I’ve done things that have gotten me taken out of the game, and all of those things I’ve stood on,” he said. “I don’t back down from those things. I don’t back down from something because of what a suspension may or may not be. Читать дальше...
“To me, this is about more than basketball. It’s about helping Draymond,” Kerr said. “I think it’s an opportunity for Draymond to step away and to make a change in his approach and his life and that’s not an easy thing to do. That’s not something you say, ‘OK, five games and then he’s going to be fine.’”

Gobert had been a frequent target of public verbal barbs from Green over the years, but he expressed concern for Green’s well-being on Thursday night. “I have empathy for him,” Gobert told ESPN after an eight-point, 12-rebound performance during the Timberwolves’ 119-101 win over the Dallas Mavericks. “You see somebody that’s not well inside and suffering. You take away the game and all that, and you want somebody to be well and be able to do what we do every night and compete and be happy.”

During the round-the-clock coverage of Green’s action and suspension, it was clear that Kerr had heard the Wednesday morning criticism of Steph Curry’s leadership from ESPN analyst Stephen A Smith. He made it a point to call it out. “For anybody to question Steph Curry’s leadership, it’s actually kind of sickening to me,” Kerr said. “I saw some of that yesterday. It was disgusting. We’re talking about one of the finest human beings that I have ever been around. But that’s the climate that we live in. Читать дальше...
