Giannis Antetokounmpo: 'We have to be more organized'

0

For Antetokounmpo, losing a close game due to a lack of organization is not acceptable. “Obviously, the talent level that we have is incredible, but we have to be more organized,” he said. “I feel like sometimes we’re not organized at all. We don’t know what we’re trying to get from our offense, or sometimes defensively, we’re not sprinting back. … We had a lot of situations today that they got a lot of dunks, open 3s, early 3s. We have to be better.

Weird circumstance with Giannis finishing his presser after the next game had already started – 9:27 PM

Adrian Griffin said he needed to do a better job of getting the Bucks into crunchtime sets in his presser. Damian Lillard and Giannis didn’t specifically mention Griffin and playcalls but cited that they needed to be more organized on offense late. – 9:14 PM
Frank Madden @fmaddenNBA
To that point: Giannis has only played center (ie no Brook or Bobby) for 36 possessions (2% of time) all year, which is by far the lowest amount he’s played in last 6 years (16% last year and 32% prior year with Brook injured much of season). But given their personnel I get it. – 8:25 PM

Bucks scored 43pts in the 3rd, a season-high for an opponent. From 12 down at halftime to up 3 entering the 4th.
They shot 56%, made six 3s and had 0 TOs. Giannis and Dame having big nights, as expected.
And they switched to a 2-3 zone. – 7:04 PM

The Bucks have done a great job of flipping the angle of their screens for Giannis and Dame all year.

After three quarters, the Bucks lead, 94-91.

That was a 43-point quarter from the Bucks. – 7:02 PM

Pacers leading the Bucks 63-51 at the break, matching their largest lead of the game Turner has 16pts.
Dame held to 4pts has been significant. Giannis leads all with 20pts.
Pacers are shooting 50%, but are just 4 for 16 from outside. And McConnell’s play was significant. – 6:16 PM

Giannis Antetokounmpo is taking over a little bit here. He’s up to 16 points on 6-of-7 shooting, but the Pacers are still up, 49-44, with 4:19 left in the first half. – 6:05 PM

Huge 9mins off the bench from McConnell. Pacers took the lead and added to it while Haliburton rested on the bench.
Meanwhile, surprising that Lillard is still scoreless. Giannis is now returning too. – 5:59 PM

Definitely an NCAA Tournament neutral-site game feel here. Neither #Bucks nor #Pacers have a real deep fan base here, so fans are rooting more for Giannis. Will become more intense as game progresses. – 5:51 PM

19-12 Bucks early. Pacers just won’t be able to get stops without more attention on Giannis. They’ll need to change things up on defense at some point – but keeping up offensively is just as important. – 5:24 PM

Haliburton easily getting to the rim. They’ve scored 10 of their first 12pts in the paint.
Bucks, though, lead early and Giannis has a quick 8pts. He scored 54 on them less than one month ago.

More on this storyline

Giannis Antetokounmpo was not happy. And after the Milwaukee Bucks faltered down the stretch, looking disorganized and listless in a 128-119 loss to the Indiana Pacers in the semifinals of the In-Season Tournament, he listed the reasons why. “No, even if it was about the organization and the coaches, I try to shoot straight,” Antetokounmpo said after he was asked whether the coaches or players were to blame. “But at the end of the day, I don’t — as much as I don’t want to throw anybody under the bus, at the end of the day, the players play the game. We play the game, you know. Coaches can say whatever they want to say and put us in the position to be successful, and you hope that they do that for you. -via The Athletic / December 8, 2023
