Russell Westbrook on OKC fans: 'Best in the world. It’s like home for me to be honest'

Andrew Greif: Westbrook postgame on the reception he still receives in OKC: “Best [fans] in the world. It’s like home for me to be honest. I grew up here and they welcomed me and my family with open arms. They gave me everything they had every night and I did the same and I’m grateful.”

Don’t want to call it a complete 🏳️ but the Clippers lineup is:
Westbrook/Hyland/Boston/Coffey/Brown – 9:58 PM

Wild to hear SGA getting big MVP chants from the OKC crowd with Russell Westbrook in the house. – 9:49 PM
Brandon Rahbar @BrandonRahbar
Chet Holmgren with OKC human highlight reel Russell Westbrook in the house had one of the most electric Thunder plays since the Russ days.
Chet just pump faked Zubac from the free throw line and threw the ball off the top of the backboard to himself for a filthy slam. – 9:30 PM
Brandon Rahbar @BrandonRahbar
With Russell Westbrook back in OKC, it’s a good time to remind everyone that Russ was a member of the Thunder more recently than the Pistons won a game. – 9:20 PM

Clippers lineup: Harden/Powell/George/Coffey/Westbrook – 8:28 PM
Andrew Greif @AndrewGreif
With Kawhi out , expect we’ll see a lot of the Thunder Alumni lineup from the Clippers (Harden-Westbrook-George). After minimizing the Westbrook-Harden overlap in recent games, George’s absence vs. DAL required more time together, and last night LAC was +16 in their 14 minutes. – 8:27 PM

Video upload is at the mercy of Oklahoma wifi, but Russell Westbrook got a massive pop here in downtown OKC and he has already decided that he is taking the fight to the Thunder defense. Has a couple layups and 12-point OKC lead down to 24-16 with 5:17 left in 1st quarter – 8:26 PM

Russell Westbrook walked to the scorer’s table to check in…
…OKC fans stood to their feet and erupted in cheers.
Play was stopped to review a foul.
So when Russ finally checked in two minutes later, he got a second ovation… but bigger and louder. – 8:25 PM

New story: Russell Westbrook believes he can be ‘anything on the floor’ — including a defender earning what he believes is his all-NBA due latimes.com/sports/clipper…4:37 PM

This young Thunder team seems like it’s building something special.
OKC fans remember the feeling.
With Russell Westbrook, James Harden & Paul George in OKC tonight, it’s Thunder Past vs Thunder Future.

More on this storyline

Andrew Greif: Russell Westbrook: “Ain’t too many people defending better than me at this point if we keeping it honest.” Would an all-defense nod be validation for him? “I don’t need it but unfortunately I haven’t had one because I don’t know. I’ve been very deserving of it.” -via Twitter @AndrewGreif / December 21, 2023
Jovan Buha: My understanding is that the Lakers continue to prefer DeRozan and/or Caruso given their contracts, as previously reported. The Lakers have preferred year-to-year flexibility over long-term salaries since their championship run in 2020, and especially after the catastrophic Russell Westbrook trade. DeRozan is on a $28 million expiring deal. Caruso is making $9.5 million this season and $9.9 million next season, both team-friendly figures given he’s one of the league’s best defensive guards. LaVine, meanwhile, represents a significant commitment for a player who’s been a borderline All-Star at best. -via The Athletic / December 20, 2023
