League personnel ready for Pascal Siakam trade to come next; Hawks, Kings, Pacers all potential suitors

0

League personnel are certainly prepared for a Pascal Siakam trade to follow suit. Before this weekend’s deal, Siakam was the Toronto veteran whom rival executives were pegging as the most likely Raptor to be dealt, particularly after the team nearly sent Siakam to the Atlanta Hawks this summer, league sources told Yahoo Sports. He is under an expiring contract after his own extension talks fell short of a deal this fall. In addition to Atlanta, the Kings and Pacers have been routinely mentioned by NBA figures as potential suitors for Siakam.

Raptors not done: OG Anunoby trade sign that Pascal Siakam deal will follow

Toronto Starting Five likely to be:
Quickley
Barrett
Barnes
Siakam
Poeltl
Think the next step is to convert Siakam into more spacing that fits on a younger timeline too. I wouldn’t stop at just the OG trade.
Like, I can absolutely see Siakam to the Pacers for Mathurin/Walker. – 2:45 PM

The Knicks coveted OG Anunoby for quite a while. New York was able to land him without paying any first round capital its clutching for a superstar. Toronto actually did the thing. Siakam next?
And why this deal is kinda all about the money @YahooSports: sports.yahoo.com/what-the-og-an…2:13 PM

Really weird to see a balanced Raptors roster:
PG Barnes/Schroder
SG Quickley/Trent
SF Barrett/Otto/Dick
PF Siakam/Boucher/McDaniels
C Poeltl
Scottie probably will have to be both PG and at times backup C. Boucher is more of a PF, so, light now at backup C unless Koloko returns. – 2:05 PM

1:30 NBA injury report as OG, Achiuwa, Flynn “not with team” so Barnes, Trent, Porter/McDaniels, Siakam, Poelt start; Schroder, Boucher, Porter/McDaniels off the bench with perhaps a few minutes for Dick or Young, – 1:36 PM

The Raptors are continuing to explore trade scenarios involving Pascal Siakam after moving OG Anunoby, but there’s currently no traction on a deal, per @wojespn.
Toronto is finally ready to blow it all up and rebuild around Scottie Barnes. pic.twitter.com/YLET7kMWF01:21 PM

Hard to see the depth chart and think there won’t be another deal, probably GTJ but wouldn’t rule out Pascal/Jak. Lots of work to be done but positive step.
Barnes/Schroder/Nowell?
Quickley/Trent Jr.
Barrett/McDaniels/Dick
Siakam/Porter Jr./Young
Poeltl/Boucher/Koloko? Jontay? – 1:21 PM

With OG Anunoby off the Raptors’ roster, all attention now turns to Pascal Siakam.
The Pacers, Kings and Hawks are three teams to monitor on the Siakam front leading up to February’s trade deadline. – 12:22 PM

WOW.
If OG is being moved Siakam has to follow as the Raptors retool around Scottie Barnes. – 12:18 PM
Bobby Manning @RealBobManning
Mazzulla liked Queta’s second goaltend on Siakam after he got going, but didn’t like the first one after the foul where the ball might not have gone in. – 10:14 PM

Siakam misses second and Kornet tips it out, game ends. #Celtics 120, #Raptors 118. Home winning streak continues at 16. Brown 31, White 21, Kornet 20; Barnes 30, Siakam 27. – 10:00 PM
Josh Lewenberg @JLew1050
Fun game. Frustrating result. Raptors put in all that work to erase Boston’s lead then gave it back with some truly confounding late-game shot selection/decision making (and, of course, missed FTs). Barnes and Siakam were brilliant (again). Needed to play through them more late. – 9:58 PM
Eric Koreen @ekoreen
‘Topes lose. 120-118. 30-10-5 from Barnes, 27-5-5 from Siakam, 31 from Jaylen Brown. – 9:58 PM

Refs say Derrick White committed a foul with 1.4 seconds left. Siakam is at the line with 2 shots and down 3 – 9:57 PM

Siakam will get two free throws with 1.4 left. He’ll have to miss the second and hope for a tip-in. #Celtics #Raptors9:57 PM
Gary Washburn @GwashburnGlobe
Now they’re trying to see if the #Celtics fouled in purpose before the buzzer. Looked like White fouled Siakam after the rebound. BOS up 3 and it would be a two-shot foul. #Raptors9:56 PM
Gary Washburn @GwashburnGlobe
Holiday catches ball in corner, and the #Raptors foul instead of trap. Siakam claims he wasn’t trying to foul. #Celtics9:51 PM
Josh Lewenberg @JLew1050
Raptors shot 52% in the 2nd quarter, including 5-for-12 from 3, and made up zero ground on the Celtics. Boston by 15 at the half.
Siakam/Barnes/Poeltl in Q2: 31 points, 12-16 FG, 5-7 3P.
Everybody else: 2 points, 1-9 FG, 0-5 3P. – 8:31 PM
Eric Koreen @ekoreen
The Maine Red Celts 68, Raptors 53 at the half. Siakam has 20, Brown has 24. A truly, truly despicable half from the Raptors. – 8:30 PM
Josh Lewenberg @JLew1050
Scottie Barnes and Pascal Siakam have combined for 25 of the Raptors’ 27 second-quarter points. They’re shooting 9-for-12 from the field, 5-for-6 from 3. Everybody else? 2 points on 1-7 FG. Oh, and the Celtics are shooting 65% in the Q. – 8:23 PM
Doug Smith @SmithRaps
Raptors recognize the two-time all-NBA guy who should/will dominate any matchup he gets tonight; Siakam has 11 in the quarter and Raptors kinda back in it – 8:21 PM
Doug Smith @SmithRaps
Celtics have zero shotblockers and little rim protection, they are guarding either Siakam or Barnes with a guard and the Raptors took 12 three-pointers in the first quarter
Shameful – 8:07 PM
Gary Washburn @GwashburnGlobe
Despite Siakam being guarded in the paint by Payton Pritchard, Dennis Schroder takes a 25-foot three. Siakam runs back down the floor pissed. #Celtics #Raptors7:59 PM

More on this storyline

Toronto, though, held firm, much to the dismay of rival front offices across the league. The Raptors had dangled each of Anunoby, All-Star point guard Fred VanVleet and All-NBA forward Pascal Siakam for weeks in the lead-up to the deadline, sources said, only for Toronto to send a protected first-rounder out the door and obtain center Jakob Poeltl instead. Then, the Raptors watched VanVleet walk to Houston in free agency and net nothing in return. And when the Raptors began this 2023-24 campaign far below preseason expectations — currently standing 12-19, good for 12th in the Eastern Conference — executives began to pinpoint Toronto as a main actor for this year’s trade activity yet again, as potential sellers of Anunoby, Siakam and veteran wing Gary Trent Jr. -via Yahoo! Sports / December 30, 2023
Toronto is expected to continue to explore trades involving forward Pascal Siakam, but there are no deals with traction for him now, sources said. Both Siakam and Anunoby could be free agents this summer. -via Adrian Wojnarowski @ ESPN / December 30, 2023
To start with, not in the plan for the moment is an extension for Siakam, who can sign with Toronto for up to four years and $192 million until June 30. There have been framework-type conversations since the early days of the season, per league sources, and each side has eyed Dec. 30 as a potential impetus to reach decision. Given that no agreement has been reached, it seems safe to infer the Raptors’ interests lie in something closer to the three-year extension that they offered at the beginning of the 2022-23 season that Siakam rejected. -via SportsNet / December 29, 2023
