Most forms of popular music were invented by black lads on street corners in the US and listened to in leafy UK suburbia to appear to be cool. From Blues to Rock n Roll to Soul to Funk to Rap and almost everything in between. That music hasn't really moved on since hip-hop, rap and modern R&B is down to the fact that black people are now paid their worth and fully integrated in the music business and are no longer re-inventing themselves and their culture.

You're right about the flip-flops thing though.

My missus, who's a Yank, has suggested this is something to do with 4th July weekend and/or Showtime having some sort of special on. But added the caveat "But I've never really heard that kinda bullshit before"
